When it comes to household names in fashion, the late Karl Lagerfeld is about as close to the top as one can get. With long-standing tenures at the helm of Chanel and his own namesake brand, the iconic designer is revered for his pared-back, edgy level of sophistication that’s instantly recognizable.

In an effort to expand upon Lagerfeld’s legacy—beyond the signature black-and-white palette—his eponymous label has teamed with Nigerian designer Kenneth Ize for an exclusive spring/summer 2021 capsule, culminating in the best of both brands.

The luxury house’s style adviser, Carine Roitfeld, tapped Ize, a finalist of the 2019 LVMH Prize, to create a well-balanced collection that marries the brand’s sleek European style with Nigerian-inspired prints made using traditional techniques, as an homage to Ize’s West African roots.

Colors from the collaboration make reference to the aso oke cloth, which is handwoven by the Yoruba people. Filled with genderless tailoring, colorful handbags, and an assortment of beaded jewelry, the lineup also includes a pair of intricately woven platform sandals that are a summer game-changer.
