Colorado Rockies injury news: An update on Brendan Rodgers

Colorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers left the game on Monday night in the bottom of the first inning after being hit in the helmet by a pitch from Washington Nationals starter Josiah Gray. Now what comes next for Rodgers?

After being hit in the helmet by the 92.2 mph fastball, Rodgers stayed on the ground for just under four minutes while being attended to by Rockies medical personnel as manager Bud Black stood in the batter’s box where Rodgers had just moments before. He was helped to his feet and escorted to the dugout. Shortly after he exited the field, Garrett Hampson came on to pinch run and stayed in the game at second base (where Rodgers was playing).

It was announced later in the game that Rodgers had passed all concussion protocols. He will continue to be monitored by the Colorado Rockies and his status for Tuesday’s game is still up in the air. However, after the game, Black said that Rodgers was doing “fine” after what initially looked to be a frightening moment.

“Obviously, he was a little scared when he was down on the ground,” Black said. “I took him out of the game right away for precautionary reasons but I was informed shortly thereafter that he was doing fine.
