Mid-Michigan farmers concerned about freeze warning affecting crops

A freeze warning was issued for Wednesday night as temperatures are expected to drop to the 20s. These cold night Aprils have some farmers worried about their crops.
At Country Mill Orchard in Charlotte, the apple blossoms are in full bloom. According to the owner, if it’s colder than 28 degrees, they could lose as much as 10% of the crop. He said he’s taking steps to protect the blossoms.

“We will be turning on our frost fans tonight in the middle of the night,” said Steve Tennes, the owner of Country Mills Orchard. “We’ll also be creating small bonfires around the frost fans to create more head for the fans to blow back down into the orchard.”
He said if you are worried about your plants at home, bring them inside if they’re still in their pots. If they’re planted, cover them in a blanket.
