Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel ‘super excited’ to meet Baker Mayfield amid spring game festivities

Ex-Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield will be on hand for the team’s upcoming spring game Saturday as the school erects Mayfield’s statue in Heisman Park, and new OU signal-caller Dillon Gabriel is eager to say the least  to meet the man who starred in Norman from 2015-17. Gabriel, meeting with reporters this week, spoke on the respect he has for Mayfield not just as a player but as an ambassador for the Sooners football program.

“I’m going to be excited to meet him,” Gabriel said of Mayfield. “Obviously, watching from afar and got a lot of respect for him and what he’s done for Oklahoma. He’s done a bunch, won a bunch of games. But most importantly, just the passion he has for the game and Oklahoma — man, it’s real.

So I’m going to be super excited to meet him. Hopefully, be able to further talk and get into deeper conversation. But yeah, super excited to get to meet him.”

“I think the biggest thing is he’s played the position, and has played it here on every single level — in the NFL, here, even back at (Texas) Tech,” Gabriel added. “I think there’s so much I can learn from him and his whole journey, so I’m excited to just dive deeper into that.”
