Merrillville (Ind.) junior defensive back/hybrid Phillip Roche was offered by Nebraska on Christmas Eve, his first scholarship opportunity.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Roche was an All-Area performer for the Pirates as a junior, making plays in coverage, as a blitzer and in run support.
“It’s truly a blessing knowing all my hard work has paid off to get this opportunity from a great academic school with a rich tradition,” he said. “It’s one of the best schools with a big football tradition.”
Travis Fisher has been recruiting Roche for the Huskers.
“Since Coach Fisher started recruiting me in June on the camp circuit, he emphasized the family aspect of the team and school,” Roche said.
Getting to Lincoln will be a priority for Roche this off-season.
“I haven’t been there yet but I do plan to visit during a basketball game, junior day invite, and the Friday Night Lights camp,” he said.
