Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’ Leads U.K. Chart Race as Soccer Anthems Score Early

Football isn’t coming home, but that shouldn’t stop a string of soccer anthems from scoring on the U.K. singles chart.

With England making an historic grand final appearance Sunday (July 11) at Euro 2020, supporters turned to “Three Lions” and “Southgate You’re the One” for extra motivation.

“Three Lions,” the classic 1996 song by Baddiel & Skinner and The Lightning Seeds, blasted to No. 3 on the First Look chart, which ranks the most popular songs based on sales and streaming data from the weekend.

After 48 hours, “Three Lions” was the second-most streamed song with 2.17 million plays, and the fourth most downloaded song of the week so far, according to the OCC.

Meanwhile, Atomic Kitten’s “Southgate You’re The One (Football’s Coming Home Again),” a reworking of their 2001 chart-leader “Whole Again,” lifts to No. 10 on the chart blast.

If it holds its momentum when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published this Friday, it would give the pop outfit their first Top 40 single in 16 years.

With England losing a nailbiter to Italy, expect the frenzy for football songs to cool dramatically in the days ahead.
