Entertainment mogul and longtime Atlantan Tyler Perry appears to be making progress on his goal of one day turning part of former U.S. Army base Fort McPherson into a mixed redevelopment both accessible to the public and a boon for surrounding neighborhoods.
The Madea-maker himself recently announced he’s closed a real estate deal to acquire 37.5 more acres located on the southwestern corner of his Atlanta studios, a sprawling (and walled-off) 40-building complex considered one of the country’s largest TV and film production facilities.
Almost all of that acreage on the historic grounds, according to Perry, will be used to build an entertainment district that’s open to the public.
