The Saugus football team said goodbye to Stackpole Field in the best way it knew how, notching a 28-6 win over Northeastern Conference foe Salem Saturday morning in the final football game to be played on the natural grass at Stackpole.
Prior to the game, the Sachems honored their group of 11 seniors — Eric Miniscalco, Novell Omoruyi, Kyle Surette, Javi Martinez, Sal Franco, Jack McPhee, Nico DiCenso, Doug Clark, Edlyn Dos Santos, Donny Ruby and Nate Sanchez — for their contributions to the program over the years.
Running back Sal Franco rushed for two touchdowns in the victory for Saugus, while quarterback Donovan Clark threw for one touchdown. Javi Martinez added a touchdown reception in the win.
For Salem, Corey Grimes connected with Luis Paulino for the lone Witches touchdown of the game.
Saugus (2-4) wraps up its season with a rivalry game on the road at Peabody Friday evening (5).
Salem (0-6) finishes its season Saturday afternoon (1) with a road game against Beverly.
