Rutgers officially accepts Gator Bowl invite against Wake Forest

Rutgers accepts invite as replacement team for Gator Bowl, to play Wake Forest, sources say - Flipboard

In news that has been in the works since Wednesday night, Rutgers is now officially going to a bowl game. On Thursday afternoon, the Scarlet Knights football program announced in a Twitter video that it was going bowling. Rutgers has been selected to face Wake Forest in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, replacing Texas A&M.

The Gator Bowl was first slated to have Wake Forest playing Texas A&M. However, news leaked Wednesday that Texas A&M was not able to play in the game because of COVID-19 issues within the program. That put multiple possibilities on the table, including perhaps finding a team that had already played in a bowl game to play in this one. However, it is now official that it will be Rutgers against Wake Forest.

The Scarlet Knights started out the year hot, going 3-0 and not allowing more than 14 points to be scored on them in any of those games. But Rutgers then lost five of its next six games. Opposing teams averaged 35.2 points per game in those five losses.
