Notre Dame coaching search: Luke Fickell addresses buzz that he could leave Cincinnati

Fickell: No. 3 Cincinnati isn't looking past AAC title game

Notre Dame now starts its coaching search after Brian Kelly left for LSU, and the Fighting Irish will have a number of strong candidates to look at. One name that has popped up already? Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell, a native Midwesterner who has led the Bearcats to the precipice of becoming the first Group of Five team to make the College Football Playoff. Fickell was asked about the rumors during a press conference on Tuesday.

“I don’t know what there is to address,” Fickell said, via Joe Danneman of FOX19 in Cincinnati. “Like I said, for a guy that keeps his head down and very rarely ever answers his phone or does anything like that, I don’t talk to a whole lot of people. So there is nothing. That’s the crazy thing. It’s all whatever is being said out there and different things. So there is no speculation. Is the job open? I guess it is. But I wouldn’t know if somebody didn’t tell me. It’s the same way I am with rankings. It’s the same way I am unfortunately with a lot of other things — with the exception of recruiting — that I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to. I understand it.
