MUSIC EDUCATION’S BIG PAYOFF

Lexington 1 receives national recognition

For the 4th consecutive year, Lexington 1 was honored for its commitment to music education.

The Best Communities for Music Education award goes to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students.

“Music education in our district is unparalleled because of the tremendous talent, passion and dedication of our teachers and students,” said Erin Fitzgerald, coordinator of Academically and Artistically Gifted and Talented Programs.

“The continued support for the arts from our school board and community partners has been critical in offering excellent music education for our students.”

Research shows music education benefits children. After just 2 years of music education, students show substantial improvements in how the brain processes speech and lifts reading scores compared to students who aren’t involved in music. Students who are involved in music are also more likely to graduate high school and attend college.
