The Minnesota State High School League’s board of directors unanimously approved a statement Thursday from its sports medicine advisory committee asking the Minnesota Department of Health to adjust its masking requirements to allow athletes to compete without masks during outdoor competition.
The MSHSL hopes to hear back from the state within a week.
The league recommends masks be worn at all times — including when athletes are on the sidelines or in the dugout and immediately after competition and during breaks. But the league would like masks to not need to be worn when an athlete steps onto the playing surface or up to the starting line.
Masks are still mandatory during competition at this time until the MSHSL hears back from the state.
