Lincoln Riley to retain Donte Williams on USC Trojans staff, per report

Lincoln Riley’s USC staff continued to take shape Sunday. After reportedly bringing on Georgia Tech running back’s coach Tashard Choice, Riley decided to retain interim head coach Donte Williams, according to USCFootball.com. Williams took over for Clay Helton after the second game of the season during the 2021 season.

“Sources: Donte Williams is expected to be retained by Lincoln Riley,” USCFootball.com’s Keely Eure wrote on Twitter. “Williams served as USC’s interim head coach in 2021 and is an elite recruiter.”

Earlier this month, Williams reflected on his time as the interim head coach this season.

“It’s a challenge anytime after the second game of the season you make a change at head coach … it’s just challenging from a morale standpoint altogether,” Williams said. “Every day is like a reset of the mind. The mind will take you a lot more than your physical abilities can. From the get go, it was already a challenge. It’s a challenge that I accept, a challenge that we all accept. We all in this together as a football program and as administration and we accepted that challenge and did everything we could to overcome it, it just sucks the record doesn’t show that.”
