The Christmas Hamper Program toy and food drive is underway once again. Run by the Cloverdale Community Kitchen (CCK), the hamper program is in its 32nd year. CCK needs food and toys to fill their hampers as the programs provide these items to the less fortunate.
Lydia Doublestein, the Christmas Hamper Program coordinator, said the program serves vulnerable and low-income families and individuals in the Cloverdale, Surrey, and Langley areas.
This is a community effort that relies on the generous support of individuals, schools, businesses, local agencies, and churches in our area to keep this program effective and growing, Doublestein said in a donation appeal letter. Without the assistance of community minded individuals, we would not have the opportunity to let those that receive hampers know they are cared for.
Last year, the hamper program had 600 kids registered, up from 250 in 2021. CCK did not indicate what the need was looking like for 2023.
