Warner Music China Appoints Sherry Tan as Managing Director

Warner Music Group has brought on Sherry Tan to be its head of recorded music business in mainland China. She will be based in Beijing and report to Jonathan Serbin, CEO of Warner Music Greater China.

Tan comes to Warner from a position as CEO of Mengxing Media, a start-up company she co-founded that has worked in the past with entertainment industry figures like Kris Wu and TV director Zhang Li, known for his historical dramas. The firm also co-produced shows like reality singing competition show “The Voice” and “Tmall Double Eleven Gala 2020,” a star-studded show to promote China’s Nov. 11 Single’s Day shopping spree. Mengxing also dealt in licensing movie and show rights for import and export from China.

In a statement, Tan praised Warner Music’s status as “a pioneer… helping to build the digital music market here in China.”

Serbin called Tan “a brilliant, creative exec who has a deep understanding of the music industry combined with extensive experience across the entertainment sector.”

“We’re excited to have her come onboard and help us tell our artists’ stories, connecting them with fans in China and around the world. We’ve taken big steps to increase our presence in China over the last few years and now Sherry will help take us to the next level,” he said.
