In September, models and designers will board jets to New York, Milan and Paris to show off flashy new designs at the world’s biggest fashion weeks. But in August, a different, anarchic and fiercely anti-commercial fashion week unfolded in the Nevada desert. The runway was covered in dust.
Last week, Burning Man turned the Black Rock Desert into a maximalist fashion free-for-all. If you squinted your eyes, passing bicyclists melted into streaks of fur and sequins. Platform boots stomped in the playa’s alkaline dust, and patterned pants and tops made the landscape spin.
