Music has been at the forefront of Chuck Moebus’ life since he was a toddler.
And his store, Moe’s Music, has maintained its spot in Pinewood Shoppes on Virginia Beach Boulevard just west of North Lynnhaven Road for more than three decades.
Moe’s is not only the oldest guitar store in Virginia Beach, it’s also been the place where countless students have rented band and orchestral instruments and fine-tuned their musical prowess.
Now, as the business owner enters his golden years, he is relocating his store and downsizing a bit. A sign in the window featuring Moe from The Three Stooges announces the store’s move in mid-August to 1423 N. Great Neck Road. But Moebus, 70, is not about to let the music stop.
The new location will offer just as much, including two rooms for guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, flute, brass, woodwind and piano lessons. The space has room for six lesson studios, a repair facility and a stocked inventory of instruments and accessories. With only 800 square feet, he will no longer have the space to carry drums.
“My new space is going to be my retirement store,” he said.
