Music icons Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. are back in the limelight for good reason. They have released their first studio album in 30 years. And as part of The 5th Dimension, these two are featured in Questlove’s new documentary. “Summer of Soul”. The film brings us back to the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which celebrates African-American music and culture.
It features an unprecedented concert performance by some of our musical greats … on a film reel that sat in the basement for 50 years before everything was rescued and restored. “We’re talking about people who have made really great music and have set the direction for the contemporary music scene for 50 years,” McCou said.
“I think that’s all about the topic, do you know? And when they look at it, they see that it’s a true part of American history,” Davis said. Marilyn and Billy are still making music history. Their latest album “Blackbird: Lennon-McCartney Icons” is the first studio album in 30 years. Featuring 10 songs, including “Ticket to Ride” from the works of Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
