What are the benefits that are reversing the tax rules?

The Child Tax Credit was enhanced in a number of ways under the American Rescue Plan for the tax year 2021.

  • For each dependent kid under the age of six and for each dependent child between the ages of six and seventeen, the Child Tax Credit rose from $2,000 to a maximum of $3,600.
  • Additionally, for the first time, a dependent child who was 17 could be claimed for the Child Tax Credit.
  • Additionally, the credit was entirely refundable, making it possible for you to get it even if you had no outstanding tax debt.
  • For the first time, half of the Kid Tax Credit was given in advance for each dependent child.
  • If your income was less than $150,000 for married couples filing jointly, $75,000 for individuals filing separately, or $112,500 if you were the head of the household, you were qualified for the full benefit.

Tax year 2022

The Child Tax Credit will resume providing the following advantages for tax year 2022 as they did before the American Rescue Plan:

  • Returns to a cap of $2,000 between 2022 and 2025
  • Each dependant child must be younger than 17 years old.
  • Refundable up to $1,400 but not anymore completely.
  • There were no advance payments made for the 2022 tax year.
  • If you are a head of household or a single taxpayer who earns up to $200,000 (or up to $400,000 if you are a married couple filing jointly), you are eligible for the credit.
